"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:" - Revelation 1:1

From Omega Frequency: Episode 2 (3:25):

The first thing we learn is the purpose of this vision. It is to show us the things that will come to pass. so what is ready to come to pass? It is the revelation of Jesus Christ, about the day He returns for all to see. It is the day of His victory over sin and death. If you want the book of revelation to be revealed unto you, then you must ask yourself: 'Has Jesus been revealed to me? Is he a living reality you? Have you received him as your savior and your Messiah?' Studying the things that are going to come to pass means nothing if you are not going to be saved by him when the end comes.

The verse closes with who received the vision, the apostle John. He is referred to here as the servant John. The word servant has the following definition in the Bible:

Servant: It is the one who gives himself up to the will of another. He disregards his own interest to advance his master's interest.

And this is the mission of the Christian. We give ourselves to the Messiah so we can receive the destiny He has for us. John's destiny was to write this book to the church and to reveal the triumphant return of the Messiah.
